NCSA conducted a “Live Fire” technical training on OT (Operational Technology) systems at the Cyber Security Lab with students from the Canadian Institute of Technology (CIT), with a focus on protecting critical infrastructures.
The training was organized as a Red Team vs. Blue Team simulation, where the organizers staged a realistic scenario of a cyber attack and a real-time defensive response. The Red Team carried out advanced attacks, including protocol manipulation, interference with SCADA/PLC devices and process disruptions, while the Blue Team demonstrated effective monitoring, detection and recovery techniques, using specialized tools such as SIEM.
The students followed and analyzed all phases of the simulation, then discussing the techniques used, the vulnerabilities identified and the preventive measures. This training provided a concrete experience for students, helping them understand the challenges and complexities of security in operational technology and emphasizing the importance of coordination between defense and offense to increase the resilience of critical infrastructures.
